Mr. Corpening was born in Caldwell County to the late Malcolm Sado Corpening and Jessie Mae Propst Corpening of Lenoir. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Odessia Corpening, a sister, Agnes Logan and a brother, Marshall Corpening.
He was a graduate of Freedmon High School where he played football in 1962, was employed in the furniture industry and was a member of Westend Mennonite Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Roseline Wilson Corpening of the home; his sons, John David Corpening, Jr. and wife Lisa of Wilkesboro, Eric Darrell Corpening of Lenoir and Joshua Derrick Wilson of Winston-Salem; his daughters, Johannah Hartso and husband Mark of Lenoir, Anessia Corpening of Folkston, GA, Felicia Avery and husband Ronnie of Conover, and Vanessa Wilson of Lenoir; his twin brother Clyde and brothers, William and Ernest Corpening, all of Lenoir, twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. John loved his family greatly.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend James Wilfong officiating.
