Janet Yvonne Smith

Janet Yvonne Haynes Smith, age 77 of Sawmills, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Hickory Falls Health and Rehab. Born Wednesday, May 9,1945 to the late Dorothy Huffman Haynes and Stanley Haynes, in Burke County, NC.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband Johnny Colan Smith and Brother Wayne Haynes.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons Shawn Smith (Wife Shannon) and Darren Smith, and Daughter Katrina Bennett. Janet’s brothers are Carl Haynes, Gary Haynes, and Darrell Haynes. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren with one more on the way.

Janet will be remembered for being a loving mother that loved to travel and enjoy life. She enjoyed playing the piano and was known to many as an “Amazing Pianist”. Attending New Life Baptist Church was a joy of hers as she worshiped her Lord and Savior. She served as a registered nurse after completing a Masters in Nursing.

The Celebration of Life for Janet will be held at New Life Baptist Church on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 12:00 pm with the Rev. Terry Kale officiating.

The Smith family will receive friends immediately following the service.
