Eva Marie Horton Tugman, 91, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Paterson, New Jersey and with God’s Grace joined the great “cloud of witnesses”. (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Eva was born on September 27, 1930, in Lenoir, North Carolina. She was the tenth of twelve children born to the late Clyde Thomas Horton and Mamie Bailey Horton.
She was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and an active member of Madison Avenue Christian Reformed Church where she worshipped over sixty years serving as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Bookkeeper, Food Pantry worker in addition to serving where needed on several committees.
Eva was blessed with many spiritual gifts and talents to advocate God’s kingdom on earth which she used during her time of employment in finance with various corporations, banks and in the fashion industry. She continued volunteering in retirement assisting civic organizations and associations to improve conditions of the poor and elderly.
Eva was known to be a prayer warrior and lived her life according to the Scriptures believing the Holy Bible was useful for instructions, discipline, encouragement, and comfort. To her family, friends, and community, she demonstrated the heart, feet, and hands of Jesus Christ by providing Godly counsel, food, clothing, and shelter to anyone in need. She was always ready to provide an answer to the hope that she possessed.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Fontaine Tugman, five brothers (Ernest, Howard, Joseph, Vanda and Utah Horton) and six sisters (Virginia Horton, Signa Triplin, Wilma Johnson, Thelma Horton, Wyoming Anderson and Etoy Daniels).
Her life will be honored with cherished memories by her daughter, Wanda Maria Tugman, granddaughter, Celeste Simone Tugman, a host of nieces and nephews in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, California and a loving church family.
After services in New Jersey are completed, a receiving of friends will be held at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home in Lenoir, North Carolina on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held to honor Mrs. Tugman on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 12:00 pm at the Horton Family Cemetery at 6337 Laytown Road in Lenoir.
