Michael “Mike” Harris McGuire- died on July 24th, 2024 after several years of ill health, including overcoming lung cancer. Born on April 12th, 1946, Mike was the third of five children of Bill and Mary Lou McGuire of Kingsport, TN.
Attending public schools in Kingsport, TN, Mike first discovered his love of singing through a Barbershop Quartet there. He graduated from high school in Kingsport and attended college at the University of Tennessee with his twin sister Mary Ann McGuire Chrestman, who introduced him to Vivian “Ann” Chamlee who became his cherished wife for the remainder of his days. They were married for nearly 54 years at the time of his death. Mike and Ann lived in Adairsville, GA for much of his married life until relocating to Trussville/ Moody, Alabama in 2015.
Mike loved people and loved to create. As an architect and teacher for most of his career, he engaged these gifts daily. Throughout marriage, Mike and Ann created together, taking their pottery, watercolors, and more on the road to regional arts and crafts festivals. They were always active in their churches, with Mike serving as a deacon in several of them. Most recently, Mike served as a deacon and member of the Mellow Brook Singers at Mountain Brook Baptist Church. His church family brought him great joy. Mike was a frequent guest of Waffle House of Moody, AL, where he became part of the family. Mike rarely met a stranger and his adult surviving children, Chamlee McGuire, Christie Mac Segars (Croft Segars), and Chip McGuire regularly heard from others what a kind man he was.
In addition to his wife and children, Mike is survived by his six grandchildren – Abigail “Abbie” Loscuito, Ila Segars, Elizabeth Segars, Harris Segars, Alice McGuire, and Carrie Jo McGuire. Mike is also survived by his siblings – William Patrick McGuire (Deborah McGuire), Mary Ann Chrestman (Reuben Chrestman), Andrew McGuire (Elisabeth McGuire), and Brian McGuire (Joe Haban).
