Mary John was born in Helena, Alabama on March 15, 1926 to parents John and Mary Creel. Several years later, John Creel moved his family to Birmingham to be close to his job with L & N Railroad, where Mary John and her sisters enjoyed a wonderful childhood with their loving parents. When Mary John was only 15 years old, she met a neighborhood kid named Nick Jones who became the love of her life. Mary John graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1944 and began a job with T. J. Elmore Stores as an Executive Secretary. Nick proudly joined the U.S. Navy to fight for his country in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Mary John and Nick were married a year after his return from the war and were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary before Nick passed away the following spring. Mary John always told her children that God had given her the very best and there could never be another. Mary John enjoyed going to church, playing cards with friends, caring for her rescue cats and spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Seal, grandsons, and a multitude of loving family members.
