great-grandfather. Don passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023 at the Leduc County
Hospital at the age of 92.
Don was born to Warner and Margaret Johnson on their farm in the Buford (now Glen Park)
area on November 21, 1930. He grew up on the farm with his siblings Lloyd, Vernon, Doris and
Leslie. As the oil industry grew in the ‘40s and ‘50s, Don was hired by Texaco Exploration as a
gauger. He worked for Texaco for 35 years, retiring from Texaco in 1985.
Don met Anna Senft in about 1952 in Calmar, Alberta. They married in 1954. They had two
children Linda and Roderick. Once they had a family, Don and Anna lived in the Mount Pleasant
area of Edmonton for 25 years. During that time, Don and Anna helped on their relatives’ farms,
worked with relatives on a Shell service station, bought land close to Evansburg, holidayed with
their family and relatives throughout Alberta and BC. They made many good friends in the
Mount Pleasant neighborhood, allowing Linda and Rod to grow up with many good people
around them.
With Don’s retirement, Anna and Don moved out to live on 80 acres of Don’s Dad’s quarter
section. They enjoyed farming, gardening and many family and friend visits while on the farm.
They worked hard on the farm until 2014 when they sold the farm and moved into Leduc where
Anna will continue to live.
Don will be missed for the twinkle in his eye that always produced laughter at some witty remark
or teasing actions, for the care and love he had for family and friends and for the strength he
had to work hard at anything that had his focus.
Don is survived by his wife, Anna, his children Linda (Ian) Kirillo and Roderick Johnson, seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and their
families. Don was predeceased by his father (Warner), his mother (Margaret), his oldest brother
(Lloyd), his second oldest brother (Vernon), his sister (Doris) and his youngest brother (Leslie).
The family wishes to thank the care providers on wards 2.2 and 3.2 of the Leduc Hospital for
their compassion and care of Don.
A service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the Glen Park Hall. Services will be
at 1:00 pm.
