It is with very heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved wife of James Edward Robertson, devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, at the age of 86 on April 9, 2024.
Her husband of 51 years Jim; son David; mother Dorothy; father Cecil Joseph “Joe”; elder brother Cecil; elder sister Iris and younger brother Jack “Jackie” of Brooklyn, Hants County Nova Scotia and other friends and family members whom passed before her are close and dear in our hearts and memory.
While Barb spent the last 21 years of her life in Devon / Leduc, AB., life began in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Her family roots in the Maritimes remained close to Barb’s heart directly influencing the person we loved and admired. Mom’s abiding affection of family and friends back east never waivered. Mom was proud of her humble roots and reminded us daily of our good fortune to keep us grounded. Back home was a source of all the great stories and family legacy. Singing in the church choir, town hall dances, learning to cook, working as a switchboard operator, growing up in a small Maritime town and all the wonderful memories of her friends and family. It was when sisters Delores and Carolyn and their families came west to settle and prosper, this time together solidified and paved the way to create more treasured memories. The family traditions of get togethers, laughter, music, singing, dancing and the most fabulous food and life experience was the order of the day.
Barb was an amazing cook and baker. Sunday mornings in the Robertson house meant homemade bread being made to have for the week. Barb was a mother who fiercely loved her children ensuring we wanted for nothing. She worked very hard and devoted her life to creating a balanced home of love and support. A loyal friend who never judged and always had time for someone in need. At the center of this was mom’s dearest love, her husband Jim. A beautiful partnership of endearing love and respect through all life’s trials and beauty. Barbara lives on through children; Rod (Irene), Kim (Everett), Wanda (Barry), Andy (Jillian); wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren; dear sisters Carolyn (Ralph), Delores (Bill), nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held for immediate family later. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly suggests a donation be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca).
