The phrase big things come in small packages was first used when Roberta June Furches was born in Richmond, Virginia on October 13, 1938, as a coal miner's daughter. She was the youngest of four children born to Ralph and Myrtle Furches until age 10 when her baby sister Priscilla joined the family at five days old. June spent her time willingly caring for Priscilla, helping her parents tend to the garden, animals, and working in the general store her family owned. During this time she met the love of her life, Charles Thomas Wright, known lovingly as Jabo. She was three years his senior so after she graduated from Big Creek High School in 1957, she stayed home and found work at Mica Mould until Jabo finished school. They eventually wed on October 23, 1959, and began their 63 years together. Jabo joined the United States Air Force and they then welcomed their first child, Charli, on May 27th, 1961, while stationed in Rome, NY. As a military spouse, she was not afforded the opportunity to have a career, but that was not what mattered to her most anyway. Her family was what she was most proud of. On August 17, 1968, they welcomed the long-awaited arrival of their second child, Tonya Lynn. Jabo continued his military career until retirement in 1981. The family settled near Austin, Texas, a place they grew fond of after Jabo was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. Charli graduated before the move from Florida and soon married Lisa Waits. Tonya graduated from Dell Valley High School in 1986 and married Marc Bittner. Charli and Tonya remained close to their parents. The family eventually bought land in Liberty Hill, Texas, where they all still live. June retired from Motorola in 1997 and spent the rest of her life doing what she loved most, spending time with her family. She helped care for her grandchildren Lauren, Chuck, Sarah, Sierra, and even her great-grandchildren Sam and Jackson. Mawma and Pawpa's house was home to everyone. No matter how you arrived you never left hungry or burdened. The way June loved her family left no room for wondering who held her heart. When she became ill earlier this year her beloved family rallied around her and lovingly cared for her as she did for them all those years prior. Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called her home on Sunday morning, October 6th, 2024, at the age of 85 at her home in Liberty Hill, Texas.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Myrtle Furches, brothers Kenny and Wesley, sister Helen, and the babies she lost.
June leaves behind her loving husband Jabo, her children Charli and Tonya (husband Marc), her baby sister Priscilla, her grandchildren Lauren (husband Samuel), Chuck (wife Kandice), Sarah and Sierra, great-grandchildren Sam, Jackson, Lane, Jacob, Isabella and Kinsley, along with multiple extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor June's life on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Leander Funeral Home, 1200 S. Bagdad Rd. Leander, TX 78641.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at St. David's Georgetown and Amedisys Hospice for providing exceptional care to our sweet June.
