Patricia Ann "Patty" Young peacefully left this world hand-in-hand with her Lord on August 8, 2023. She was born on September 4, 1953, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Patty was the fifth child of seven, of the late Conrad and Lavonne (Schneider) Steib. While Patty was a young child her family boarded a train and moved to Anaheim, California from Central Iowa. Southern California is where she would call home for much of her life.
Patty’s family lived in a small three bedroom, one and a half bath home. She shared a room with her three sisters and a single bathroom with her six siblings. Patty attended St. Anthony Claret Catholic School in Anaheim during her childhood. During the summer months a young boy from around the corner would deliver newspapers to her parents’ home. That delivery boy - Robert W. "Bob" Young- would soon befriend Patty's brother-James M. "Jimmy" Steib. This friendship would lead to an introduction between Bob and Patty. Patty attended Katella High School in Anaheim and graduated in 1971. While at Katella, Patty began dating Bob. The high school sweethearts would soon wed in January of 1972. Patty enjoyed her early years married to Bob taking late night drives with friends to Las Vegas, weekend trips to the Colorado River in Arizona, and hosting friends and family at their home.
Bob and Patty eventually relocated to Brea, California. Patty worked for Beckman Coulter until the birth of her first child - Jason W. Young in January of 1981. The couple would soon be blessed with their second child – Christopher A. Young in August of 1986, and their youngest, Andrew S. Young, would follow in February of 1989. Patty was a strong, dedicated, and loving mother who enjoyed her time raising her three sons. She was always there for them, and made sure to make time for each son. Bob and Patty spent many of their weekends involved in their son’s sports activities. Bob coached and Patty was the Team Mom. Traveling all over Southern California, they were keen on not missing a game. As the years passed by, and their sons graduated from Brea Olinda High School, Bob and Patty decided they needed a change of scenery.
In 2011, Bob and Patty decided to move out of Southern California. They bought a home In Leander, Texas, and that is where Patty would spend the rest of her life. Patty enjoyed the new lifestyle. While Bob was on the road, she enjoyed taking care of the house, her cats- Gretchen and Gracie, and watering her plants in the backyard. She enjoyed the different seasons and the storms that would roll in. She would tell you, though, that she was not a fan of the Texas heat! Patty loved building friendships with her neighbors. She genuinely was concerned and cared for the people in her life.
Patty was able to witness her son Andrew graduate college from Texas State University in the Spring of 2017.
Later in 2017, Patty would be diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Determined to meet her grandchildren, Patty’s strength would help her overcome the demon. She would become cancer free the following year. The battle did take a toll on her body, but Patty would go on for the next few years to have a high quality of life. Bob retired in 2019, and they were able to travel. Patty was able to see her sons Chris and Andrew marry their respective partners in 2021 and 2022. Chris' marriage to Brittany N. Early brought Wyatt R. Early into the family, and gave Patty the opportunity to spoil her Grandchildren. In the Spring of 2023 Patty was blessed with news that she would be having two granddaughters. Unfortunately in late July of 2023, Patty returned to the hospital after becoming ill.
Patty would peacefully pass away surrounded by friends and family, under prayer, on August 8, 2023.
Patty was preceded in death by her son Jason W. Young and her siblings - Susan M. Finley, Jane A. Zanath, James M. Steib, and Mark P. Steib. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband of 51 years, Robert W. Young; two loving sons- Christopher A. Young of Costa Mesa, CA and Andrew S. Young of Joplin, MO; two daughters-in-law: Brittany N. Early of Newport Beach, CA and Keila B. Young of Joplin, MO. Grandson -Wyatt R. Early; two future granddaughters- Alyson S. Young (December 2023) and Miss Young (February 2024); her sister Mary E. Organ; her brother Michael J. Steib.
