Larry graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and then went on to study at NYU. While at NYU he met his soon-to-be wife, Nancy Lee Everitt. After a New Years Eve wedding, he began a four year commitment to the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Isherwood and the USS Kidd in the South Pacific. Upon leaving the Navy, Larry attended University of Colorado, Boulder and earned his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. He went on to have a 36 year career with IBM where he helped in the development of the first personal computer. After retiring from IBM, he spent 19 years with H&R Block.
Larry was an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and served as the head usher for over 10 years. He also served on the committee to plan and build the memorial garden where he will be interred.
Larry was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy Lee Richards. He is survived by his son Lawrence “Larry” G. Richards, daughter Leanne C. Dunn and husband Garry Dunn, daughter Jeanne Marie Marks and husband Randall Marks, and daughter Merilee F. Abboud and husband David Abboud, as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Larry loved to travel and explore the world with his wife and friends. He also loved playing bridge and was an avid reader. But most of all he loved his wife and his family.
