Dewaine proudly served and retired from the Texas Army National Guard where he dedicated 37 years of honorable service, last serving as Command Chief Warrant Officer Five, Office of Adjutant General at Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas. During his distinguished military career, he earned numerous decorations, service medals and badges including:
•Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters
•Army Commendation Medal
•Army Achievement Medal
•Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster
•National Defense Service Medal
•Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two Hourglass Devices
•Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral Four
•Army Service Ribbon
•Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal
•Texas Outstanding Service Medal
•Texas Medal of Merit
•Adjutant General's Individual Award
•Texas Faithful Service Medal with one Silver Cactus
In addition to his military service, he was a member of the Colorado Masonic Lodge #96. Once retired, he enjoyed traveling with family and friends, gambling, and going to the lake.
Dewaine will be remembered by those who served with him as a dedicated leader and service member. He will be remembered by family and friends for his love, humor and passion for collecting.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Dovie Braeutigam and granddaughter, Lauren Ratliff. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Anna Fern Braeutigam; his daughter, Christi Ratliff and her husband, Paul; his son, Jason Braeutigam and his wife, Dennise; his cherished grandchildren: Meagan Ratliff, Colton Braeutigam and Jayden Braeutigam; sister, nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
A memorial and military honors will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations, in his honor, to Shriners Hospitals for Children or charity of your choice.
