William “Bill” Lloyd Albert Pursel passed away at his home in Las Vegas on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the age of 91. Bill is predeceased in death by his parents, John William “Bill” Pursel and Helen Magdalene “Madge” Frye, sister Jeanne Pursel (Henry) Chretien, and brothers Jack (Berniece) Pursel, Richard “Dick” Pursel (his twin), and Thomas “Tom” (Joan) Pursel. Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mabel “Mac” Salisbury Pursel and his children William “Bill”, Kristie, and Kim (Bill) Toffelmire and her step children and their children. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bill was born July 24, 1925 in Marshalltown Iowa. His family moved to Las Vegas in 1939. After graduating from LVHS (class of ’43), he was drafted into the US Army and served in The European Theatre WWII. He became a sales manager for KLAS Radio, and covered several atomic bomb explosions at the Nevada Test Site. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant with The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. He was president of The Life Underwriters Association of Nevada. He was active in The Las Vegas Jr. Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of The Sports Car Club of America in So Nevada, a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and belonged to both the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He served two-four year terms as a trustee at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital (UMC). Thanks to Kindred Hospice, especially Brenda and Estella for their excellent care. Palm Downtown Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. Services will be held Saturday, June 10th at 10a.m. in the chapel. Visitation will be 3-7p.m. on Friday, June 9.
