William Sanco Bates, Jr. was born on June 28, 1953, to William Sanco Bates Sr., and Maxine Blount in Shreveport, Louisiana. William graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He served in the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi and Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. He attended college at Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and New Mexico State University, Alamogordo, New Mexico. After completing school, he then went on to train in the security field. Afterwards, he began a 34 year career working in security. He worked at The Louisiana State Capitol, Angola State Penitentiary, Louisiana, and retired from a supervisory position at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. William devoted himself to his loving wife Lana “Faye” and the girls he raised, Tonya and LaWanna. He cherished his mother Maxine B. Clark, his stepmother, Jearlyn Rye Lindsay, his brothers Malcolm, Donald, and Nathaniel, and his sisters Linda Sue Ames and Renee Clark. Cherished were his brother-in-laws Gregory, Donald, Billy Ray, Ben and Milton, his sister-in-laws Lola, Julie, Vanlisa, and Sandra, He loved and adored his nieces, nephews, and friends. To him, they returned this love. William, aka, Bill, Will, Bates, Tall Man and Slim, was a loving, caring, neat, organized, mechanically inclined, and comical man who had a love of horses.
He was a GREAT man.
