Verne Francis Tobin was born on September 25, 1933 to Thomas and Mabel Tobin in Gettysburg, South Dakota. He attended school in Gettysburg and joined the Army at the age of 17. After serving in Germany he returned and married Nancy Tobin. They were married for 17 years, until her death. He then married Charlotte Cox in 1983 and they were married for 25 years until her death. Verne worked on his sister’s farm in Gettysburg before joining the Army. He then worked at Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota for 12 years before getting a Civil Service job at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. He worked there for 10 years before transferring to Nellis Airforce Base in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977. He worked there until his retirement. After retirement he worked at SW Medical in Las Vegas as a courier. Verne is survived by his children – Marian (Eddy) Aikin from Lebanon, Oregon; Lori Lappin Keeley from Henderson, Nevada; Brenda from Las Vegas; stepchildren Tad Cox and Laura Sanders from Colorado; 12 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren; sister Lois Tobin from Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers Thomas Tobin from Spearfish, South Dakota; Bruce Tobin from Pahrump, Nevada and Perry Tobin form Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He is preceded in death by his son Daniel, parents, one brother and three sisters. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Lake View Terrace Assisted Living, 180 Ville Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
