Thomas V. O'Reilly

Thomas Vincent O’Reilly was a true gentleman. He was kind, gentle, sincere and gracious. He always saw the best in people and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. He was never angry and always had a smile on his face. He had an infectious laugh that always made you feel good. He was not a man of many words, but those he did offer were filled with love and wisdom. He asked great questions and he listened, truly listened. You felt heard when you talked with him.

Thomas was born on December 3, 1937 in New York City to John and Marion (Haubrich) O’Reilly. He grew up in NYC and married Doris Cecelia (Porter) on April 20, 1963. They lived on Staten Island, NY for many years, but finally settled in Hartsdale, NY where they raised their family. Tom was very active in his church and community, where he served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Hartsdale Fire Department for many years. He and Doris were married for 35 years prior to her passing in 1998, at which time he was a tireless caregiver for her, especially in her last weeks and days.

He remarried on August 18, 2001 after meeting Mary Ann (Scarpa-Pitz). He became a central figure and role model in the lives of his 3 grown stepchildren and their families. He finally retired from Ricoh Corporation and he and Mary Ann thoroughly enjoyed their retirement, laughing, dancing and traveling the world. In 2005, they decided to move to Las Vegas, and were always active going to shows, movies and casinos. Tom continued to be active in his church in Las Vegas, St. Joseph, Husband of Mary where he became a member of the Knights of Columbus and all of the philanthropic work associated with that organization.

The bright flame of his life was extinguished on July 14, 2020 when he was welcomed into heaven by his parents, John and Marion; wife Doris; daughter Suzanne; brothers Michael and George; and sister Ellen. Those left in this world who mourn his passing include his wife Mary Ann; daughter Deirdre (Ed Rabb) and granddaughter Olivia; stepdaughter Michelle (Rod McNeeley) and grandson Brandon; stepdaughter Nadine (Frank Palombo) and granddaughters Nicole and Avery; stepson Steven (Denise) and grandsons Dylan and Daniel; as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Tom leaves behind a small portion of himself in the lives of his family and friends whose lives he touched. He will forever be remembered and missed.
