Sylvia Irene Campbell, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Nevada passed away in the early morning of November 3, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She bravely fought a very short and difficult battle with cancer. She was born June 20, 1937 in Farrell, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Las Vegas since 1962. She served as the President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Nevada since January of 1995 and since that time dedicated her life to helping the public and the business community. She graduated from Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, California in 1955. Sylvia earned her Associates in General Studies from the Clark County Community College in 1981. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and Finance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in August of 1990. Her favorite pursuits were painting watercolors, genealogy, gardening and her landscaping projects. Sylvia was also an avid reader. Sylvia enjoyed trapshooting, fishing, bowling and golf. Sylvia was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching her favorite events whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were the UNLV basketball and football teams, she held season tickets for many years and almost never missed a home game. She was a die hard Rebels fan, through and through. Sylvia was an active member of the UNLV Alumni Association and Athletic Boosters, Nevada Watercolor Society, the North Las Vegas Rotary Club and a member of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. In 1993, she was named Employee of the Year with the State of Nevada, Department of Prisons. In the late 1960's, she was on the Federal Firearms High Handicap Trapshooting Team. Sylvia was also honored by Sports Illustrated Magazine, naming her as an outstanding rookie trapshooting participant one year. Sylvia was also named in the Distinguished Women and Men in Southern Nevada 2002 Directory. She is survived by her sons Rodger and Mark, her grandchildren Logan, Jordon and Rhiannon, and her sister Sandra L. (Gaffney) Porter. Preceding Sylvia in death was her son Bruce James Campbell (1981), her father James McGill Gaffney (1981) and her mother Sylvia Elma (Heiner) Gaffney (1976). Memorial services for Sylvia will be held at Palm Mortuary - Downtown, 1325 North Main St. in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, November 20th at 11 a.m..
