Richard A. Thompson

Richard Alexander Thompson, 88, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. He was born May 29, 1923, in Long Island, N.Y., and resided in Las Vegas for over 50 years. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asia Pacific Theatre, where he earned a Bronze Star in the New Guinea Campaign. Richard owned and operated Home Realty and was also a real estate appraiser. Known to many of his friends and family as "Richie," he will be remembered as a man that loved unconditionally, and was always there for everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Minnie Thompson; wife, Elaine Thompson; and son, Brian Thompson. He is survived by his brother, Walter Thompson; sister, Marilyn Monohan; and children, Sandra Cances, Lynn Thompson, Cheryl Mooney, Alexis Thompson, Nancy Church, Rachel Thompson and Stephen Thompson; and his stepchildren, Ruth Petrella, H. Fletcher Brunelle (Tracy), and Dee Dee Brunelle. He was also blessed to have 22 grandchildren; and great- grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, with services following, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services following at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation as a commemorative gift.
