Nina D. Hughes

We are broken hearted to announce that Nina DeSpain Hughes, age 74, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on August 4th, 2022, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nina was born December 20th, 1947, in Baldwin, Illinois, to Otis and Elvira Despain.

Nina led a full life of volunteering, working in the mortgage lending industry, and helping raise 3 daughters. She was a poet, a softball mom, a soccer mom, an amazing baker and a pro-bono taxi driver. Nina absolutely cherished family gatherings, the holidays, and time with her grandchildren! Her smile and laughter filled a room and her hugs were the absolute best. She will be missed by all.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, Otis DeSpain and Elvira (Henneke) DeSpain; sisters, Mary Welten and Margaret Ann DeSpain; and brother Vernon Charles DeSpain.

Nina is survived by her loving husband Donald Hughes, daughters Jennifer Buell, Julie Hughes, and Jaime St. Claire, son-in-laws Patrick Buell and Jean-Pierre St. Claire, and grandchildren Dustin Buell, Alyssa Buell, Ashlyn Buell, Tiernan St. Claire, Aidan St. Claire. She also leaves behind her sisters Betty Horn of Tilden, IL, Wanda Cortner of Lee Summit, MO, Zita Watkins of Coulterville, IL, June Dortch of Perryville, MO, and brothers William DeSpain of Baldwin, IL, Roy DeSpain of Coulterville, IL, Paul DeSpain of Baldwin, IL, and Larry DeSpain of Sparta, IL.

To honor Nina's memory, we are holding a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, located at 8601 Del Webb Boulevard, in Las Vegas, Nevada. We invite anyone who knew this amazing woman and wants to help us celebrate the wonderful life that she led to join us.
