Morfa Javier Avila of Las Vegas, Nevada, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 12, 2015. Morfa was born on January 17, 1938 in Gumaca Quezon, Philippines to Pedro V. Javier and Cion Calvelo Javier, who are both deceased. Morfa was devoted to the Catholic faith and was a member of the St. Frances De Sales Parish in Las Vegas, Nevada. She earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceuticals from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. Morfa later completed a program in medical technology at St. Joseph’s Hospital Sisters of St. Francis - School of Medical Technology in Tacoma, Washington. In the early 1960s, Morfa left her native Philippines in search of a new life in the United States. She enjoyed a long and successful career in the medical field, which spanned more than 40 years, as a medical technologist. Shortly after she came to the U.S., Morfa met Severino B. Avila, Jr. who she married on October 23, 1963. Morfa and Severino later settled in Saginaw, Michigan, where they made their home for more than 30 years. During that time, she worked for St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw. Morfa and Severino relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 1990s. Morfa continued working as a medical technologist at MountainView Hospital and later for Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, where she later retired. Morfa loved traveling, visiting many states and numerous locations abroad. She was particularly fond of the Mediterranean regions of Europe. Morfa was an avid reader and had an extensive collection of books. Another of her favorite pastimes in retirement was playing Bingo with family and friends and anyone else who would join her at her favorite Bingo halls. Morfa enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including gardening, making floral arrangements, cooking, baking and crocheting. She created many afghans and bedspreads for friends and coworkers, which she often would give as presents during the Christmas holidays. Morfa had an outgoing and friendly personality. She had a warm and caring nature, often seeking to help others, especially her family, before herself. Morfa always seemed happiest when she could make someone else’s day brighter. Morfa was a devoted mother. Both of her sons were born in Saginaw, Michigan. Her eldest son, Severin P. Avila, was born on August 23, 1966. Her youngest son, Lawrence, was born on March 22, 1968. Morfa is survived by her husband Severino; her sons, Severin and Lawrence and his wife, Lori; sisters Rosario (Javier) Luber, Meme Javier, Corazon (Javier) Natividad; and brothers Vicente Javier and Wendell Javier; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Quintin Javier, Raul Javier and Antonio Javier; and sister Fatima (Javier) Desamiro. Your family will forever love you and keep your memory alive. Your courage, determination and willingness to put others before yourself are examples you set that others who knew and loved you can carry on. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Palm Cheyenne Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada.
