After a remarkable life, spanning 100 years, 8 months, and 25 days, Mildred Josephine Strehlow of Federal Way passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Washington at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
The oldest of seven children, Mildred was born in Seattle, Washington, on April 3, 1922, to Claude Daniel Preston and Josephine Victoria (Leopold) Preston. In 1927 the Preston family relocated to Wisconsin, where Mildred completed her schooling and later met and married her future husband, Edwin William “Bill” Strehlow.
Mildred and Bill were married at St. Anne’s Church in Milwaukee on April 7, 1947, and over the span of their fifty-year marriage raised four sons. Bill preceded Mildred in death in 1997. Also preceding her in death were her parents – Claude and Josephine – and all six of her siblings – Beatrice Spencer, Shirley Stacey, Phyllis Barbara Brown, Yvonne Luck, Kenneth Preston, and Patricia Degani. Surviving her are her sons: James (Bonnie) Strehlow of Federal Way, Washington; Thomas (Claudia) Strehlow of Reno, Nevada; Gary (Anne) Strehlow of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; and Jerry Strehlow of Biloxi, Mississippi. Surviving grandchildren are Erin (Brad) Haase, Tristan Strehlow, Rebecca (Joshua) Jones, Sarah (Darin) Mitchell, Melissa (Ryan) Carey, Matthew Strehlow, Andrew (Fran) Strehlow, Jonathan (Christine) Strehlow, and Laurie Beth (Danny) Gulley. Surviving great-grandchildren are Benjamin Haase, Evan Jones, Caitlyn Jones, Alef Mitchell, Kira Mitchell, Semmes Strehlow, Spencer Strehlow, Oliver Strehlow, Carson Gulley, Stella Gulley, and Preston Gulley.
Arrangements are pending for a memorial service at Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery.
