Mary Lou Vokits

Mary Lou Vokits, age 91, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Mary Lou was born in Ludington, Michigan on March 9, 1932. She was the daughter of Joseph Benard Petrak and Helen Irene Hronek.

She married William Vokits on June 5, 1954, in Muskegon, Michigan. They were married for 69 years.

After graduating from Mercy Central School of Nursing in 1953, Mary Lou worked in the health care profession for over 45 years. Many patients benefited from Mary Lou’s care and attention during her tenures at University Medical Center, Valley Hospital Medical Center, and Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. She was honored locally as March of Dimes, Nurse of the Year in 1989.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband William of Las Vegas, Nevada; children Brien (Gina) Vokits and Mark (Kathleen) Vokits of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters Patricia Mellring of Ventura, California, Yvonne Lauretti and Barbara Potuznik of Muskegon, Michigan; and grandchildren Aaron, Kristen, and Ryan. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A committal service is being planned at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
