Mary was born on November 24, 1932, in Maury City, Tennessee to Marvin Cecil and Clara Mae Reasons. She was raised in Detroit and graduated from Pershing High School in 1951.
She married Robert “Bob” Bolton on February 4, 1954, in Detroit. His career took them to California in 1956, where they remained until moving back to Michigan in 1967, eventually settling in Romeo.
Her lifelong love of dolls and teddy bears encouraged the opening of “The Village Doll Shop”, a centerpiece of Main Street Romeo in the 1980’s, and one of the first official adoption centers for Cabbage Patch dolls. After closing her shop, she continued working and absolutely loved her jobs as both a Unit Clerk for Labor and Delivery at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester and as a personal shopper and salesperson for Lord & Taylor in Sterling Heights. Mary also spent time as a volunteer for Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Bob and Mary retired to Henderson, Nevada in 2000.
Mary’s joy came from making her surroundings beautiful and from seeing people happy, well cared for and successful. If you were sick, Mary was the one you wanted taking care of you. Even if you were the kid that threw up a second time in the middle of the night on the freshly made bed, David. She had a keen fashion sense and was always flawlessly dressed and elegant.
Mary had many interests: She was an exceptional bowler and participated in leagues throughout the years. She often bowled high games (once a 290!) and was awarded a number of trophies before hanging up her shoes at the age of 86. Mary loved music and singing. She sang for several years with the Sweet Adelines, Great Lakes Chapter. The chorus toured Washington D.C. which was a highlight for her.
Mary was a faithful member of the Church of Christ; at Parkview in Warren, Michigan and later at Victory Road in Henderson. She taught Vacation Bible School and volunteered her time to many church outreach programs. She loved all of her friends in her Tuesday morning ladies class.
Mary had a lasting love of animals. She adopted many rescues, dogs and cats over the years, including Pal, Pepper, Suzy, Max, Isabel, Lily, Rosie, Bailey, and Taffy.
Mary was loved and is survived by her husband, Bob Bolton, her four children: Debbie Walker (Gary), David Bolton, Danny Bolton, and Diana Mounce (Steve). Mary was also a grandmother of eight and a great-grandmother of two. Additional survivors include sister/partner in crime, Nancy Bass (Zerrial), brother, Joseph Reasons (Karen), and many beloved nieces and nephews and her cousin Billy “Mott” Jones (Nancy).
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Marvin Cecil and Clara Mae Reasons, and her sister Carole McCrary. Mary and her siblings had a strong bond and there are many stories from years past that make us laugh to tears. The sisters, a trio of blonde beauties, often got themselves into “situations” whenever they were together. We are thankful Uncle Joe survived.
In addition to Bob and her son, David, the family wishes to thank Alicia, Leah and Michelle, for their compassionate and exceptional caregiving for our Mom over the last several months of her life. You three are the best of the best and are so appreciated.
Per her request, Mary will be cremated at The Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, Nevada. As the wife of an Air Force Veteran, she will be interred at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive Boulder City, Nevada.
A memorial service is pending. Charles Belva, Minister of Victory Road Church of Christ, will be officiating. Details of the service will be updated on the Victory Road Church of Christ Facebook page and on the Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery website.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter or adopt a rescue pet in memory of Mary.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmeastern.com for the Bolton family.
