The first of two brothers, he was born on July 6, 1969 in Chicago, IL to Luis and Ofelia Marquez. Mark was never married and lived a single bachelor life. Mark received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in 1991. He briefly worked for the Unisys Corporation after graduation, before working at Sargent-Welch / VWR International where he ended as an Accounts Manager in 2013. Mark then moved out to Henderson, NV in 2018 to be with his parents.
From an early age, Mark’s interests were very much in food, movies, and music. He played tennis for his high school team and was part of the backstage crew for their high school productions. In college, Mark was a founding member of the Nu-Beta chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity at NIU, established November 11, 1988. After college, Mark’s interests further developed. He explored the exceptional food scene in Chicago, always knowing the best mom-and-pop place for every type of cuisine. He attended countless concerts, with some of his most favorite bands being Rush, Kiss, and Dream Theater. He somehow always seemed to have watched every movie out there, and always had an impressive home theater setup wherever he lived. Mark was sociable and funny, and lived a carefree and outgoing life, up until he suffered a major stroke in 2011. He worked hard to get back to his 100% old self but ended up having permanent impairments with his speech and right hand, which caused him to have to retire in 2013. Despite the stroke, Mark remained his funny self, and maintained his passions with food, movies, and music. After he moved to Henderson, NV, he picked up new hobbies of hiking and mountain biking. He also helped care for his father until he passed in June of 2019 and his mother until she passed in June of 2024.
He is survived by his younger brother, Christian; his two nieces, Elena and Sofia; his nephew, Justin; his poodle-terrier mix dog, Kyle; and many close aunts, uncles and cousins.
