Marilyn Saniel Soriano was born on July 27, 1955 at Culion General Hospital in Culion, Palawan in the Philippines to Maximo and Feliza Saniel. She was raised in Culion with her brother, Teodoro; and sisters, Nenita and Lourdes. As a young girl, she was very outgoing and animated. She took part in softball and volleyball, and in her spare time she liked playing rubber bands, going to the playground, and swimming.
During school, Marilyn had a curious nature and a sharp mind, which meant she always did well in her classes. She was also a School Muse, and participated in beauty contests. She graduated from St. Ignatius Academy in 1975 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Arellano University. Not only was she intelligent, but she was also a warm and inviting person who loved the people around her. Marilyn was a loyal friend to many, including Violeta Hernandez, Francing Mancio, Mariza Herzog, Carmen Antiola, Jane Castro, Sina Abulencia, Tess Mercado, Flora Downing, and Antonina Leyson.
On August 11, 1978, Marilyn exchanged wedding vows with Pablito D. Soriano in Manila and Palawan. She was devoted to Pablito and the life they built together. They were blessed with two daughters, Krisan May and Kristen; son-in-law, Edmund Gerard; and later with two grandchildren, Calista Noelle and Caleb Nathan. Family was incredibly important to Marilyn, and she did all she could to make sure they were healthy and happy, and most importantly that they knew they were loved.
Whenever she had leisure time, Marilyn had a number of hobbies. She loved watching shows on YouTube and dressing up in colorful clothing, but most of all she loved to travel. Some of her favorite vacations were to Switzerland, France, and Greece, but Marilyn found joy in simple road trips as well. Any time she could experience all the world had to offer, and especially if she could share that wonder with her loved ones, she was happy. Marilyn’s faith was also important to her, and she spent her years as a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and prayed the rosary.
Marilyn passed away on May 15, 2023 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital – San Martin Campus in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her husband, Pablito Soriano; daughters, Krisan May Soriano and Kristen Berueda; son-in-law, Edmund Gerard Berueda; grandchildren, Calista Noelle Berueda and Caleb Nathan Berueda; and her sisters, Nenita Lunario and Lourdes Palarao. Services were held at Palm Southwest Mortuary and her urn was brought home so she could be with her family.
Marilyn was the kind of person who could win others over easily with her laughter and smile. She was a light in so many people’s lives, and her warmth and love will be felt by them forever. She enjoyed life and the experience of living it. This is how everyone will remember Marilyn Saniel Soriano, and she will be deeply missed.
