Marilyn was born in Monterey, California to Virgil and Esther Hurst. After graduating from Antioch High School, Marilyn pursued her log scaling certification for the state of California and learned the other facets of forestry equipment and applied it to her next career choice, a Clamp Driver for E & J Gallo Winery. She medically retired from the winery after 17 years.
Marilyn had many interests and exceeded in everything she did but her passion was Corvettes. She was nominated and selected to be the ambassador to the Corvette Museum and President to the West Coast Corvette Club. She excelled in judging Corvettes and presented plaques as the best survivor to many at the Good Guys shows. She also loved working with ceramics and later learned the craft of 3D art which won her many awards.
Marilyn adored her husband, Rocky and he adored her. They met at the E & J Gallo Winery. Marilyn would always be the last person to leave knowing that Rocky was the guard on duty. Acting innocent, she would expect Rocky to search her purse as if she were hiding something when Rocky responded with “ I’m not interested in what’s in your bag”, they became friends right then and there and that’s when their love story started.
Preceding Marilyn in death are her parents and Brother, Stephen Sowell.
Marilyn leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Rocky; Sons, Richard (Amanda Reynolds) Witthoft, Frank (Kathryn) Witthoft, Patrick (Alison- Rose) Witthoft; Stepdaughter, Nicole Acton; Sisters, Valerie Peterson and Jackie Schultz as well as five Grandchildren, two Great Grandchildren and four Great Great Grandchildren.
Marilyn was loved by many and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Davis Park Church of Christ, 901 W. Rumble Road, Modesto, California 95350
