She was born on October 12, 1952 in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Matilde and Rene Gomez.
She was raised in New York and graduated from St. Alphonsus Catholic High School in 1970. She worked in New York for a few years and had aspirations to become a translator for the United Nations. In 1973, she made a move to Las Vegas to be closer to family. She found work at the Tropicana Hotel where she also met her husband Tony Rodriguez. They were married in 1976 and a year later she gave birth to her loving son Ricky. She devoted herself to raising her family and caring for her family for the rest of her life.
Maria loved celebrating life with her family and friends; she enjoyed the beach, music, dancing, cooking, and drawing sketches of her family; she loved to help others, she was quick to share her smile and laughter with everyone, and in her latter years she loved nothing more than to spend time with her grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Tony; her son, Ricky; her stepsons, Erick and Robert; her grandson, Peyton; her mother, Matilde “Cucha”; and her sister, Lourdes; and all the people who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Judeʼs Children Hospital which was dear to Mariaʼs heart.
