Luis Leal, 78, passed away, June 27, 2014. He was born to Ramon and Amparo Leal on October 5, 1935. Luis was always an extremely determined and independent individual. At the age of 7, he decided that he wouldn’t ever be made fun of by anyone in school and ensured that he learned to speak, read, and write English by reading Felix the Cat Comic Books; always a favorite story he told his family. As a very young man he joined the Marines in 1954. The Marine Corps was his life and something he was most proud of besides his lovely wife, Ruth, and his six daughters, Bethany, Kathy, Aimee, Karna, Jessica, and Celena. He referred to all of his girls as his “6 pack”. He and his family had many adventures as they were transferred during his 32-year career as a Marine. It was very hard for him to retire from his love, but after his long career he did so. In true Lou fashion, his independence and adventures didn’t end there as he spent a year in Japan, then test drove cars, and finally decided to have another career as a supervisor for a paper company. Ultimately, it was cancer that made him slow down and possibly enjoy life at a different pace. His final years were spent with his loving wife as well as nine months with his two daughters Karna and Celena, and their families. He was surrounded by his family in his final days and laughed amongst them all. He will be greatly missed and joins the many other Angels of the Marine Corps.
Semper Fidelis Luis Leal!
