Linda Ann (Cox) Pietranton, 80, a resident of Las Vegas for nearly 50 years, passed away Tuesday night, December 3, 2024, with beloved family members at her side.
Linda Cox was born November 10, 1944, in Steubenville, Ohio, the only child of Darold E. “Bill” and Ann Marie Cox of Weirton, West Virginia. She graduated from Follansbee High School in 1962 and studied at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, before serving as an elementary teacher at St. Joseph’s Grade School in Weirton.
She married the love of her life, Robert G. “Piet” Pietranton, on June 4, 1966. His service in the United States Air Force led the couple to Middletown, Pennsylvania; Newport News, Virginia; Homestead, Florida; and Sembach, West Germany, before they arrived in Las Vegas in 1976.
In Las Vegas, Linda was a substitute teacher with the Clark County School District for many years, and she was an agent at her husband’s insurance practice with American National Insurance Company.
She was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council and the Women’s Auxiliary.
But her favorite role was that of a doting grandmother and mother. She was incredibly devoted to and adored her grandsons Matthew and Michael, and her granddaughters Katherine and Samantha.
Linda was also a loving wife and loyal friend — and a fabulous human being.
She was always curious, challenging herself to keep her mind sharp. She inspired a lifelong love of reading in her family.
She loved — absolutely loved — puzzles and trivia. Watching Jeopardy with her sons was one of her favorite activities. The Las Vegas Review Journal crossword puzzle and sudoku were like old friends. She then tackled The New York Times and Los Angeles Times crosswords. Most recently, she was enthralled with daily games of Wordle, Connections, Strands, the Spelling Bee, and Factle. And she reveled in comparing performance notes with her sons and their friends.
Linda is survived by son Robert G. Pietranton, Jr. of Los Angeles; son Ryan Scott Pietranton, daughter-in-law Anne Marie (Bowron) Pietranton, and grandsons Matthew Ryan Pietranton and Michael Ryan Pietranton, all of Las Vegas; uncle Richard Schell and his wife Pam Schell of Toledo, Ohio; and many cousins and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Piet,” and her beloved granddaughters Katherine Marie Pietranton and Samantha Marie Pietranton.
