Lawrence Paul Nelson was born in Los Angeles, California on March 20, 1951, to William and Jean. He was the second oldest of their four boys and graduated from Downey High School. He served in the Army as a language specialist during the Vietnam War for three years, translating Chinese as well as being a Japanese interpreter. He graduated from UCLA where he met Fifilani. They married in 1978 and raised two children, Erika and Ian, and they lived in Texas and the Bay Area, California until Fifi's death in 2008. Larry married Hongmei Li in 2008 and lived with her in California, Texas, North Carolina and Nevada.
He worked for many years as a stenographer for court depositions. Larry loved to travel and continued learning new languages throughout his life. He was also passionate about cars and would talk for hours with anyone who enjoyed the same. He was devoted to his dog Pipi who brought him much joy. He was looking forward to a permanent move to China with Hongmei prior to his passing.
Larry passed away at the age of 73, on Sunday, June 2, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV after many years of surviving diabetes-related health issues. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Nelson and Jean (Woody) Jackson, and his first wife Fifi. Larry is survived by his wife Hongmei, daughter Erika Nelson (Kyle) Smith, son Ian Nelson, five grandchildren, and his brothers Brent, Carl, and Warren Nelson.
