She moved to Las Vegas where she met her best friend forever Carrie Brown in the 6th grade. Later she graduated from Rancho High School. While working at the Castaways Hotel she met Mr. Leo Whitehead and married him January 11th 1979. Mrs. Whitehead was baptized at the Church of Christ. She worked many years at UMC and retired as a dietary technician. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Joyce leaves behind her only daughter Andrea, sons Leo and William Whitehead all of Las Vegas, Nevada; two stepsons Leonard McMillan and Deon Lyons. Grandchildren Destiny and Deonte Whitehead, Jacqueline Nitarski, Deondre Lyons and one brother Charles Baker of Monroe, Louisiana; plus a large host of nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones.
She loved to cook for her family, and was a fan of the Food Network Channel, Sci-fi movies and watched Judge Judy every chance she had. She was very outgoing, upbeat and downright hilarious. She was a fighter. Not to mention beautiful inside and out. She was a joy and delight to be around. Preceding her in death are her brothers Henry Lee, Samuel Lee, Darnell, Ronald Lee Wyatt and her loving Aunt Mary Williams affectionately known as Tee.
Ms. Joyce touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by ALL who experienced the pleasure of encountering her.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Downtown Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
