Joseph L Benson

Joseph Lee Benson of Las Vegas, NV was born on February 7, 1943 and went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2023, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvis Martin Benson and Rosa Lee Benson. Joe is survived by his spouse, Renee Benson; as well as his children, Joseph Lee Benson II, Esq.(Elena) of Las Vegas, NV, Maj. Michael Brandon Benson of Leander, TX, Jessica Lynn Green (Jamey) of Dothan, AL, and David Tyler Benson of Las Vegas; and grandchildren, Joseph Benson, Jay Benson, Ava Green, Adyson Green, and John Michael Benson. He is also survived by his brother, James Benson of Las Vegas, NV; as well as in-laws, Wayne and Anna McMenamy, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Mr. Benson was born in Loudon, TN. After grammar school, his family moved to Paducah, KY where he graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School and was a graduate of the University Nebraska of Omaha. While at the University Nebraska of Omaha, he was on football scholarship and ROTC. Upon his completion of a major in English, he proudly served his country in Vietnam, and at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. The USAF sent him to law school at California Western in San Diego, CA. He returned to Nellis to finish his service as a JAG. He retired as a Major from the Air Force after 20 years and entered into private practice as a personal injury attorney in Las Vegas, NV.

Joseph Benson had a spirit of adventure and loved life and wanted others to experience that with him. Joe loved his family and taking them on vacations, he loved to play golf, he enjoyed playing Gin Rummy with his closer friends on a regular basis, and trying his luck at the Blackjack table and the Sports Book. Joe had a profound love for many pets throughout the years as well. In 2011, at the pinnacle of his legal career, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nevada Justice Association.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Palm Mortuary 7600 S Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89128 on July 30, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at 4:00 P.M. before the ceremony.

A reception will occur Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name to Cleveland Clinic https://my.clevelandclinic.org/giving and Heaven Can Wait Animal Society
