Jose Florian Barin was born in Olongapo City, Philippines to Monico Barin and Lourdes Bernal Barin on April 27, 1956. He lived in Pampanga, Philippines until his family migrated to the United States (Chicago) in 1972. In Chicago, he received his high school diploma from Lane Tech High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois in Chicago. While there, he made many life-long friends while actively involved with a Filipino-led student organization called the Narra Society. They still hold annual reunions which Jose Florian regularly attended. He was also involved in his brother’s rock band as a lighting and sound engineer.
He then went on to work for a company of called Lovejoy, Inc where he worked as an engineer designing transmission couplings. After a number of years at Lovejoy, Jose Florian decided to seek other opportunities and went to work for Motorola as a cell phone designer, this is where he spent most of his professional career.
He later married the love of his life, Maribeth Francisco Barin on October 6, 1984 in Skokie, Illinois. Born of their marriage is the other love of his life, his lovely daughter, Daphne Monica Barin. They lived happily in Bloomingdale, Illinois until they decided to move to warmer climate in Las Vegas.
While in Bloomingdale, Jose Florian and his family were actively involved in their parish church with activities like Simbang Gabi and various fundraising events at the church. He designed most of the stage props and graphics at the church’s stage presentations.
Jose Florian is survived by his wife of almost 40 years Maribeth, his daughter Daphne, his mother Lourdes, his brother Ned, his sisters Bernie, Adel, and Fides, his sister-in-law’s Maruja, Rowena, Rosario, and Nonie, his niece Pia and her daughter Rigel, and cousins, nephews and nieces, and grand nieces and nephews too many to list on this obituary.
The impact that Jose Florian has made in our lives is immeasurable and we will miss him with a mixture of joy & loss. Your prayers, love, & support have been comforting & appreciated by our family. We will grieve for now and celebrate his life & legacy.
