John L Peterson, age 92, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022. He was a retired Actuary and after 20 years of service, a retired School Crossing Guard. He was a 43 year resident of Las Vegas. He was born on December 28, 1929 in Toledo, OH to Harold and Agnes (Gardner) Peterson, following the death of his Mother before he was 7 months old, he was adopted by John C and Bertha (Fought) Peterson, who had cared for him since his birth.
He served in the U.S. Air Force (SAC) during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a BA Degree (Math Major). He was a member of Chi Beta Chi/Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternities. He was a past Master of Lenexa, Kansas Masonic Lodge and a past Sultan of the Zelzah Shrine Oriental Band. He was awarded the Rainbow Grand Cross of Color, The DeMolay Cross of Honor, and the DeMolay Legion of Honor.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Arthur. Also by Gladys “Jean” (Bashore), his wife of 33 years and by Joyce (Culley), his wife of 27 years. He is survived by his son, John Eric; Daughter, Gretchen Lawson; Granddaughter, Vanessa (Brett) Basham; Great Grandsons, Leighton and Keaton Basham; Stepdaughter, Marisa (John) Moreno; and Twin Granddaughters, Ava & Gia Moreno. Half of John’s ashes will be interred in Overland Park, Kansas, next to “Jean’s” ashes, and the other half in Rupert, Idaho, next to Joyce’s ashes. Per John’s wishes, there will be no Funeral or Memorial services.
