John Masino Arfuso, known to many as John or Mr. A, and affectionately called "Pathfinder" by his friend Joe, AKA "Woody", was welcomed into the arms of heaven on July 10, 2024. John was born on April 13, 1958, in Buffalo, NY, and his zest for life shone brightly throughout his 66 years.
John was an embodiment of charisma, lighting up any room he entered. He was a beacon of laughter with a unique sense of humor that could make anyone smile. He was a natural protector, disciplined and organized, John's intelligence was as grand as his heart; always quick to share his wisdom. As a loving husband and father, he cherished his family deeply and was extremely proud of his children.
John's journey in life was as diverse as his interests. He lived in various places, from Buffalo to Bermuda, Montreal to Las Vegas. He was a man of many talents, from his fluency in French and English, some Spanish to his exploration of Russian, he called "Rushlish", in an effort to connect more closely with his Ukrainian family. His love for martial arts led him to earn a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Master Allen Serac in the art of Tae Kwon Do Song Moo Kwan. In his passion for education John excelled in the world of academics. He earned a B.A. in Hotel Administration from UNLV in December 1982 and later completed his M.B.A. in August 2004. He had a diverse and successful career, managing restaurants and hotels with MGM and The Boyd Group, owning a Texaco gas and service station, and teaching marketing and business at the high school level. He was a dedicated teacher, and during his career at CCSD, he changed the trajectory of many young lives through his career development and business teachings, and his mentoring about life.
John was a lover of life, always eager to try different cuisines, and was an excellent cook himself. His hobbies were as varied as his interests, from coin collecting to hunting, from playing the trumpet that inspired his love for Jazz to exploring the mysteries of UFOs. He had a keen eye for sports memorabilia and saw them as investment opportunities, he would have been right had he not quit the year before Kobe Bryant joined the NBA. Despite his adventurous spirit and wide-ranging interests, what mattered most to John was his family. He was a dedicated father to Chimine “Squid” Trey “MacaMoodle”, Bryce “Monster Man”, and Mirelle “Little Monkey”, and a loving husband to Anastasiia, whom he married on November 10, 2012, in Las Vegas. He took joy in his grandchildren Tristen Riley Brooks, Madeline Sophia Brooks, Jameson Gail Barrett, Emma Harper Arfuso, Charlotte Reign Arfuso, and Adeline Bea Arfuso
John was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church on June 17, 2024. Reflecting on his life, the words of the Book of Matthew 5:16 come to mind: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." This was a fitting description of John’s life, as he was always ready to lend a hand, whether for a home or business project. His radiant personality, commitment to excellence, and love for those around him truly let his light shine.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Masino and Jeannine Arfuso, and sister Jeannine Morgenstern. His light continues to shine brightly through his wife Anastasiia, children Chimine (Jose),Trey (Whitney) Bryce (Sophia) and Mirelle, and his adored grandchildren. John is also survived by his beloved Parents-In-law Hanna and Valerii Shuhai
