Joan, 83, unexpectedly passed away on September 24th. She was a 64-year resident of Las Vegas and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had no greater joy than supporting her loved ones and watching them grow. Her family was everything to Joan, and Joan was everything to her family.
Whether serving as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader or cheering on her family at sporting events, Joan was always there for those she loved the most. Active in rodeo as a secretary, supporter, and volunteer in many capacities, Joan loved watching youth grow and succeed. From t-ball to high school rodeos and every other sport and club in-between, Joan could always be found in the bleachers, cheering on her loved ones with an encouraging smile. Joan and Ed loved spending time with their children enjoying the outdoors at their place in Panguitch, Utah. From sewing wedding dresses to baking her famous cookies, there wasn’t a role Joan couldn’t do. Her proudest role was raising, supporting, and loving her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edward Jones, and her brother, David Sanders. She is survived by her sister, Marylin (Larry) Allen; her brother, William Sanders; two sons, Dennis (Mary) Jones of O'Neals, Calif., and Bruce (Cathy) Jones of Teague, Texas; two daughters, Karen (Carl) Lutjens of Las Vegas, and Nancy (Jason) Dondero of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Cody (Ashley), Kyle (Samantha), Melissa (Jeremy), Justin (Kasey), Jennifer (Rick), Sarah (Kenny), Julia, and Megan; and six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kylie, Kaylee, Crew, Westyn, and Axel.
A celebration of Joan’s life will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at City Community Church, 4315 N. Rancho Drive, Suite 130, Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the youth organization of your choice in memory of Joan’s dedication to family youth
