Hugh Llewelyn Roberts Jr., 78, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010. He was born September 24, 1932, in New York City, to Hugh Roberts Sr. and Woodis Finch Roberts, and was a 14-year resident of Nevada. He graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in Westchester County, N.Y., Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and New York University with a master's degree in business administration. Hugh served his country for three years in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corps. Hugh married Phyllis A. Roberts in 1969. He worked for Chemical Bank in New York City, and Elmsford, N.Y. in Westchester County, retiring in 1992. Hugh was a lifetime member and former president of The Saint David's Society of the State of New York, and former vice president of The New York City Opera Guild. Hugh moved to Las Vegas with his wife, Phyllis in 1996. He was former chairman of The Salvation Army - North Las Vegas Advisory Council, member and served on the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church in Las Vegas, and president and co-founder with Phyllis Roberts of The Las Vegas Philharmonic Guild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Woodis Bent and Mary Ellen Gill. Hugh is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Carol Christine Roper of California, and Genee Lynn Roberts of Westchester County, N.Y.; grandsons, Jake and Jesse Roper; and granddaughter, Jocylen Roberts. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at All Saints Episcopal Church.
