Helen worked with Sears part-time while her children were young, returning to full-time work around 1970, shortly after the Sears opened in the Boulevard Mall. She worked in the cashier's office. She was offered the Head Cashier position when the Sears at the Meadows Mall opened in August 1978. She worked at this location until her retirement in 1992.

She also held several offices at the international level of the order. She was a member for over 75 years and a current member of Mizpah Rebekah Lodge #26 in Reno at the time of her death.
