disguised as a mere mortal, and delivered him to the arms of Florence and Harrison Wood. They
would be known as the parents of this dynamic life force - - - - - - Harrison Bernard Wood.
Growing up in Seattle, young Harrison enjoyed sports, music, art, comic books, and most of all
making friends. His super power was connecting with people, people from all walks of life. He never
met a person he couldn’t befriend.
His artistic talent was evident early on and, in 3rd grade, he received his first honor as the
recipient of the Reflections Art Award from the Seattle Public School System.
His interest in all artistic realms continued and by high school he was writing and directing video
movies that he and his boyhood friends starred in.
Harrison’s love of drawing steadily developed and as a student at the University of Washington, he
created a comic strip for the University Newspaper, “The Daily”.
His interest in the artistic world expanded and in high school Harrison found his passion in music
and became a radio DJ. This passion turned into a career and by the age of 18 he was the youngest
full time DJ on a P-1 station in the nation. His career in radio led Harrison to work in Seattle,
Yakima, Spokane, Wenatchee, Denver, Portland and Las Vegas.
In 1998, Harrison and his then wife, Amelia Adams, were blessed with the birth of their daughter,
Sierra, known to all as his greatest joy.
Alongside his radio career, Harrison remained true to his love of drawing and creating comics. In
2003, with a couple of artist friends, Harrison created Thunderfrog Comics. Even in the early, lean
years of existence, a portion of proceeds from Thunderfrog was earmarked and donated to Seattle
Children’s Hospital.
Moving to Las Vegas in 2013, Harrison continued his work in the radio industry and became an
integral part of the creative comic artist community. It is a testament to his dedication to the
craft and to his impact on his fellow artists that in 2022, the annual Nerd Culture 702 Vanguard
Award will be renamed The Harrison Wood Nerd 702 Vanguard Award in his honor.
Harrison will be missed and remembered by all whose lives were enriched by having encountered
this dynamo of a man - this “artistic superhero”. Harrison lived life to the fullest because he knew
that life is for living. He pursued his passions with great zeal and forward movement. In his words
“onward and upward”.
Preceded in death by his father, Harrison is survived by his daughter, Sierra Wood; his brother,
Anthony Wood (Brianna); his niece, Amadi Wood; his mother, Florence Baker-Wood; many loving
aunts, uncles, cousins, and a huge host of friends.
