Gregory Joseph Bambic, age 78, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away in his home on Monday, March 14, 2022. Greg was born September 28, 1943 in Joliet, Illinois. He was a 1961 graduate of Joliet Township High School.
Greg joined the Air Force in 1961 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Despite a difficult childhood, Greg’s jokes were always bringing smiles to people’s faces from the grocery clerk to his grandkids. He was a prolific salesman and sales manager for most of his career spanning 30 years in Illinois, Colorado, Wyoming and Nevada. After moving to Las Vegas in 1988, he then became a cab and limousine driver for another 21 years. Greg noted that “my favorite hobby was golf and I always enjoyed low scores thanks to my pencil and eraser, unless my golf buddies Pat, Pete, Sam, Matt and Jim conspired to make my golf score higher.” He especially enjoyed playing golf with his sons and grandkids.
Greg’s work with The Professional Drivers Association, an organization protecting the rights of Las Vegas cab drivers, had a profound impact on the cab industry in Las Vegas. He became President of PDA in 2004 and he along with Craig Harris and Sven Nilsson were instrumental in getting cameras installed in cabs which greatly reduced the number of crimes against drivers. The PDA was also a benevolent organization that raised over $150,000 to help over 20 drivers or their families who were killed or wounded by a criminal act.
Greg is survived by his sons Gregory (Pauline) Bambic, Jr., Michael (Tina) Bambic, and Dustin (Cory) Bambic; his grandchildren Brandon, Aaron, Alex, Christian, Alyssa, Jude and Ruby; and his great-grandchildren Aurora and Beckham.
Greg will be laid to rest in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial and Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada on Friday April 15, 2022 at 9:20 am.
