Mr. George G. Joseph was born in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan on November 9, 1918 to Helena and Arlington Joseph. Mr Joseph graduated from Wooster College (Ohio) in 1940. He served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific where he saw combat at Battle of Guadalcanal, the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Invasion of Okinawa. After four years of Navy service, he had a short stint with Proctor and Gamble. Mr. Joseph began his life insurance career as an agent with New England Life in November of 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. In 1952 he was appointed General Agent for New Jersey with the same company and in 1960 he was appointed Director of Agencies in the Home Office in Boston.
Over the next sixteen years he received a number of promotions ending up in 1970 as Executive Vice President- Marketing; in charge of Ordinary Life, Group Operations, Mutual Funds and Pension Sales. In 1972 he was elected to the New England Life Board of Directors. In September 1976 he was elected President of the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) in Hartford, Connecticut, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1983. From 1983 to 1993 he was a consultant for over fifty life insurance companies.
In 1980 Mr. Joseph received the John Newton Russell Award, the highest honor conferred in the life insurance business. In 1983 the General Agents and Managers Conference created the George G. Joseph Chair in Management at the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He also received the Financial Security Award from the Life Advertiser’s Association in 1983.
Mr. Joseph has served as President of Newark Life Underwriters Association, Newark General Agents and Managers Association, and the Insurance Institute of Northeastern University, as well as a Trustee of Springfield College, Bentley College, the Life Underwriter Training Council and the Million Dollar Round Table and General Agent and Managers Foundation.
Mr. Joseph also served as a Board member of Business Men’s Assurance Company in Kansas City, Missouri, The National Life Assurance Company of Canada, Seafield Capital Corporation, CPI Pension Services Co. and Vernon Publishing Co.
He resided in Las Vegas, NV and was at one time on the Boards of the Southern Nevada YMCA and the Salvation Army of Southern Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by three sons, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
