I knew Gary while in College at Brockport State. He was my roommate during Sophomore year. He was a great guy with a great sense of humor. We shared lots of laughs. I saw first hand how determined he could be as he lost 100 pounds while I roomed with him. I am saddened we will never have a chance to reunite at a home coming event.  

I was shocked and saddened to come across this news on the internet. I had been trying to find Gary for several years. We were ushers together in movie theaters in Great Neck back in the 70's and among our misadventures together was a trip to L.A. and Vegas in the summer of '73. We lost touch after that but I always remembered his sly sense of humor ... and love of Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders! I found home movies of that trip in '73 when cleaning out my parents' house and wanted to send Gary a copy. (Hence my search for him.) If the family would like to have it, please send me a contacting phone number and/or address and I'd love to send it to you. My sincerest condolences on your loss.

Marilyn and I, like everyone who knew him, are heartbroken to hear of Gary's passing.  We send our deepest sympathies to you and Jeffrey.  While in Vegas we enjoyed our time visiting your home,  hitting the strip and eating out.  He was fun to be with because he always shared his incredible knowledge, many times with that wry sense of humor.  We will miss him so much at upcoming shows, but  his persona is legendary and his memory will carry on as long as we do.

Gary and I were both from NY State and he was one of the first persons that I met when I began collecting political buttons in the 1970's. I enjoyed meeting him at shows coast to coast. He was a good friend and I will truly miss him.

The Coyle family extends our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Our hearts were broken with the news of Gary’s passing. Over our 25+ years of friendship, we knew Gary as a bottomless well of witticisms and as a man who appreciated everyone’s company. His presence was magnetic. We will forever cherish the countless memories made together.

Having traveled the country in search of the rarest political memorabilia, we pray that Gary will always be in search of a Cox / Roosevelt button. Our community will never be the same. Gone but never forgotten.
