My fondest memory of you was when I visited for your and Grandma's 50th wedding anniversary. You invited me to sit on your lap, and that's what I remember the most from that whole trip. Thanks Grandpa.

The years come and go so quickly. Thank you so much for raising your son to be the man I married.  I really appreciate the thoughtfulness that he shows me.  Through the messages spoken and written, I realize all the good things you did throughout your life. We will miss you.

Sandra and family, hope you can always remember the good times and Fernard's dedication to all of you.  We know you will see him again in the eternities.  Meanwhile, he leaves an empty spot at the table.  Our love to you all at this time of mourning.

Throughout my life you have been the most stalwart example of dedication and loyalty to family. Some of the characteristics I've learned from you include persistence, hard work, faith, and an unending quest for knowledge.  Thank you for welcoming me, guiding me, and loving me.  Here's a little something I wrote about growing up with you and Grandma:

I am from aprons and vinyl tablecloths, from Ovaltine and Tang.

I am from the blue house on Flower Circle. From the cozy, crowded, soft place to land.

I am from the snapdragon, the rose, and the mustard greens.

I am from bookworms and musicians, from opinionated and soft-spoken, from Fernard and Sandra.

I am from the packrats and recyclers, stray cat feeders and stray can collectors.

From "Waste not, want not" and "Finish your dinner".

I am from Mormon pioneer heritage, from sleeping in the pew, from Sunday shoes, and Vitamin C.

I'm from mulberry trees, hamburgers with ketchup only, mush and eggs for breakfast, and powdered milk.

From the war veteran, the mother to many, the in bed by nine-ers, the railroad worker, and the green thumb.

I am from the red piano, the rocking chair, and the clothes drying out on the line.

I am from the small home that's always big enough for one more.

I was a scrony little alley cat when Rawlin first brought me to your home;I never knew that until many years later because never was there a moment when you didn'nt treat with the acceptance and dignity thats helped refine me into the righteous capable woman I am today. My eternal graditude to you.

I recall with fondness the attention to logic and detail that you had.  I was so impressed with how easy things were to understand after talking to you.  I have since adapted your method of thinking into my life in a small way and it has helped me solve many of my life's problems.  I remember how much you valued my achievment of Eagle Scout and your special gift to me which I still have.  Thank you for your legacy, I love you!  From Jeremy+Shawna+Ethan Blake

Dad, among so many things you did for me, you taught me to work hard, to value and defend the truth, to devote myself to my family, to fulfill my duties, to live according to my beliefs, and to be forever learning what life has to teach me. Now that you are gone, I take comfort in knowing that what you taught to me lives on through me, that in many ways, I am my father's son. I hope to share your legacy with my own children so that in generations to come, when we both have passed from living memory, you can live on.

Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time. May you have peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories of Fernard to forever hold in your hearts.

I love you grandpa. You will always be in my heart. I"m glad I was able to be there with you and I'm glad you aren't suffering anymore. You are one of the toughest and strongest men I know.

Dad,I spent alot of time growing up resenting what a "tough" parent you were until I had my own and realized just what a GREAT dad you were, when I told you what a really great dad you are the last time you were able to hear me,you replied I hope I was, that's what I tried to be and Dad,you succeeded well above and beyond!!I will ALWAYS be thankful you and mom chose me as your daughter,I love you and miss you so much.As I always said when parting,"Behave dad,I love you". I'll always remember you with the smile from your heart you gave back and the I love you too.RIP Dad
