Elsie Michelle Jeffries passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Saint Rose Dominican Hospital, San Martin, Las Vegas, Nevada after a brief battle with cancer; she was born on July 6, 1951 in Yonkers, New York to Charles and Catherine Lewis (Parker). Elsie was a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana for almost 20 years where she was employed by Ameritech and left to open a daycare before moving to Las Vegas. While here she worked for Ford Financial until they relocated their offices out of town. She then worked for Western Funding until her passing. Elsie completed her high school education and was determined to go further after raising her family. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Kaplan University and was working to complete her Master's Degree. Elsie deeply loved her family. She loved good food, always searching for new recipes to tempt our pallets. The family was always eager to come to the table when she prepared many savory delights. Elsie was skilled at designing floral arrangements for weddings and parties. She was adept at refurnishing furniture and creative with decorations for the home. Elsie loved music. While in Indianapolis, she was a dedicated member of the church choir. She even sang a solo or two. She loved James Cleveland, Sam Cooke, Phoebe Snow, Prince, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones just to name a few. She is survived by her daughters, Kelli McGruder, and Dana Dubose (Ray); two sisters, Charlene Green and Nicole Lewis of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Chad Johnson, Chevaz Johnson, Kelsie Chunn, Kristopher Jackson, Malcolm McGruder; a great grandson Khalil Pace and great granddaughter Erin Johnson; niece, Morgan Kirk and nephews Brandon Lewis (Jessica) of Las Vegas, John Lewis of California, Peter Che Lewis and Robert Hawkins of New York; cousins Wendy Jones of New York, Michelle Jeffery of New Jersey, Barry Love of Atlanta, Cris Marvin of Florida, Robin Fletcher of Las Vegas, and many friends and co-workers. Elsie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charles and Catherine Lewis and her brothers Charles Clifford Lewis and Franklin Parker Lewis.
