Elizabeth Beckwith

Elizabeth Beckwith (nee' Guido), of Las Vegas, passed away May 7, 2019, at the age of 80. Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 11, 1938, she was a child and grandchild of immigrants from Naples and Sicily. A graduate of Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Brooklyn, Liz was awarded a full scholarship to attend Brooklyn's prestigious and highly selective Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School. In 1956, she enrolled at St. John's University (New York), where she met Harold J. "Pat" Beckwith, whom she wed in 1960. In 1967, she and Pat and their children moved to Las Vegas. In addition to raising four children, Liz ran a household which was a hub for extended family and friends. She provided shelter and incredible Italian food for many. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Landmark Pharmacy before owning and operating (with Pat) several local businesses including the candy stores Sweets of Las Vegas and the highly successful Beckwith Accounting Services. A parishioner at St. Viator Catholic Church for more than half a century, Liz was a founding member of the parish chapter of Catholic Daughters of America, served as president of the Women's Guild, and assisted her husband Pat when he was head of the parish council. She enjoyed cooking and was a voracious reader blessed with an incredible memory. She dispensed wisdom, love and food in just the right mix. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, with a generosity of spirit that reached beyond her immediate family. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Beckwith, to whom she was married for 55 years, her parents, Aniello and Frances Guido, and her brother Stephen Guido. She is survived by her siblings Jennifer Sclafani (Joseph) of Elliott City, Maryland and Joseph Guido (Paula) of Middle Village, New York; her children Francis Beckwith (Frankie) of Waco, Texas, James Beckwith (Kimberly) of Las Vegas, Patrick Beckwith (Paige) of Dayton, and Elizabeth Wuebben (Patrick) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren, Dean Beckwith, Dylan Beckwith, Riley Beckwith, Devin Beckwith, Darby Beckwith, Sophie Beckwith, John Paul Beckwith, Camilla Beckwith, Michael Wuebben, Frances Wuebben and Phoebe Wuebben; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, with rosary at 7:15 p.m., both at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E Flamingo Road. Burial will immediately follow at Palm Memorial Park-Downtown.
