He spent his early childhood in Long Beach, Long Island, NY. In 1955 the family moved to Las Vegas. Eliot attended Paradise Elementary School and graduated from Las Vegas HS in 1963. He attended Nevada Southern University (UNLV) followed by 3 years active duty in the US Army, serving 1 yr in Vietnam. After the military he completed his studies at Northrup Institute of Technology, in Inglewood CA, where he was certified as an airframe and power plant technician. He then joined his father as manager of the family owned and operated Henderson Sky Harbor Airport, known today as Henderson Executive Airport. Eliot was a licensed real estate broker and was the owner of Spacefinders Realty.
He served on several committees for the Board of Realtors, including the ethics committee. He has also served on HOA boards and held a Nevada contractor’s license. Eliot was an avid adventurer, traveling all over the world, even climbing Mt Everest (making it as far as the base camp). Eliot was a certified ocean SCUBA diver and was a very active competitor in marathons, triathlons and iron man races, placing high in many competitions. Earning his pilot’s license at age 18, flying was his passion... He was a captain with Air Vegas, flying tourists over the Grand Canyon and a commander with the Civil Air Patrol squadron in Henderson NV. Since the 1980’s, Eliot was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a charity that flies children and adults with serious medical conditions to in state and out of state medical facilities.
Eliot was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce Alper.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Justin, Gabriel and Kevin, his wife Yvonne, her daughter’s Celeste and Robin and her 5 grandchildren, his sister Susan Vermillion Mugge (Steve), nephews Grant and Jason, nieces Monica, Kimberly and Allice and 9 great nieces and nephews.
Eliot will always be remembered for his kindness and his tremendous generosity to so many. He was a wonderful mentor to his nieces, nephews and family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 22, 2024, at 12pm at King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas NV 89120.
