Edward Gray, Sr. was born in St. Joseph, Louisiana in 1940. After he graduated from high school in 1958, he relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada and joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, which was under the leadership of Pastor McKinley Hardman, Jr. On April 22, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mary Jean Thomas and they became proud parents of Edward Jr., Anthony Dewayne, and Terry Redell.
Although his goal was to run his own business, he knew he had to start somewhere. So he accepted a position at the Tropicana Hotel. He then worked as a fork lift driver for Van Building Supply, but when he worked for Nevada Ready Mix, he was informed that he was their first Black driver. After 30 years of service, he retired and started a trucking business with his brother Elmore called, E & E Trucking, a business they operated for 10 years.
Edward will forever be remembered as a loving, giving, and compassionate Dad who placed his wife, children, and grandchildren before anything or anyone including himself. He spent a life time assisting children in the community and mentoring workers in the construction industry.
Preceding him in death was his dad Clarence Gray, his mom Eliza Ann Murray, sister Pearlie Davis, and three brothers: George Wesley Murray, Elmore Williams Sr., and Leroy Gray. He leaves behind to celebrate his life and legacy, his beloved wife Mary Jean of 62 years, their children and spouses: Edward Jr. and Monica, Anthony and Deborah, and Terry and Phillip, and his grandchildren: Breona Gray, Anthony Lamar Burton, Phillip Thompson II, Jacqueline Nyisha Burton, JaQuay Gray, Edward Gray III, Summer Gray, Brandon Edmond, Diamond Gray, Hannah Gray, Harmony Gray, and his sisters': Julia Gray-Dale, Velma Jean Gray, and Rosie Jean Gray; great-grandchildren: Nova Gray, Emani Gray, Anaya Edmond; special niece Regina Ann Williams, and special nephews Patrick Davis and Elmore Williams, along with a multitude of friends.
