Lt. Colonel Edward M. Dobson Jr. (retired) age 89 passed away on December 5, 2019 at Nathan Adelson Hospice. He was proceeded in death by his Wife Dorothy and Sons Charlie and James, Father Edward M. Dobson Sr., Mother Elsie Dobson and Brother Harry and Sister Shirley. He is survived by Children Harry (Kim), Johanna, and Cheryl (Jay Earl), Sisters Ethel and Dianne. He has seven Grandchildren, Targa, Tawny, Kira, Andrew, Alaina, Ian and Aaron. He has two Greatgrandchildren, Colin and Autumn with a third on the way.
Edward’s first love was flying. He finished flight school January 1953 and received his wings from the United States Air Force. He was a fighter pilot and flew several different fighter planes including the F-86, F-100, F-101, F-105, and F-111. The F-111 he was a flight instructor. He loved talking to others about planes and flying. Edward was a Vietnam War Veteran receiving several medals during that war. He was a member of the Red River Rats and Daedalians.
Edward began running in the Air Force and carried this love into retirement. He passed his love for running to many family members. He ran marathons and other races into his eighties. He was a member of The Las Vegas Track Club.
Edward and his wife learned to ski in Germany in the sixties. He passed on that love to his children. Spending many vacations skiing.
After retiring from the Air Force Edward worked for four casinos in the slot department. First at the El Cortez, then opening up the Holiday Casino on the strip, the Landmark, and finally opening up the Excalibur Hotel before his final retirement.
Edward was loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Services and Celebration of Life will be held in May of 2020.
