He was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 23, 1923, to Father Philip Martinez and
Mother Petra Martinez. He married Ruth Cota Martinez in Los Angeles, California on August 23,
1943. Wife Ruth passed on November 19, 2019. He joined the Coast Guard when he was 17
years old. Activated in the Navy, serving on the USS Pueblo, escorting destroyers and air craft
carriers from San Diego, California west in the Pacific, to meet with other convoys. One trip, the USS Pueblo, encountered an enemy submarine, during his duty station as a rear depth
charge operator and the submarine was sunk. He received a sliver star.
Eddie in his early years, ran a small automotive business, for many years, repairing
speedometers. His shop was the Speedo shop, located in Long Beach California. He retired in
1987 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He couldn't actually retire, so he started performing at
Bally's, doing a singing act impersonating Frank Sinatra and also began a new part time career
working for Official Security and also continued with his lifelong hobbies of painting, music,
writing his memoirs of his father's struggle relocating to the United States from Mexico and was
very involved in making and getting patents for a variety of inventions. One such was "Snooze
Alert", which was a device, worn around you neck when driving and if you were to doze off, an
alarm would sound, immediately waking the driver.
Eddie was the last of his siblings, Stella Flores, Kenny Martinez, Emma Veas and Joe Martinez.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Ann Schneider-Harness and Edmund Patrick Martinez.
Grandchildren, Andrew Philip Schneider (deceased), Candice Martinez and Mathew Martinez.
Great grandchildren, Ayani Martinez, Aubrie Martinez, Azaya Martinez and Aaliah Martinez.
Memorial Services will be held on April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary. Interment services will be held on May 18, 2022 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at
1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005 at 12:40 pm.
