Lifelong Las Vegas resident, Douglas Charles Henze, born Dec. 9,1961, died unexpectedly on June 15, 2023. A graduate of Clark High School, Doug also attended Clark County Community College. As a youth, Doug was a committed Boy Scout, earning numerous merit badges and special awards. He took special interest in the Native American culture, especially traditional Indian dance. In his adult years, Doug became a skilled finish carpenter and cabinet maker who took great pride in his work. His expertise was in demand, as it was well-known that he could build or fix just about anything! After an unfortunate and debilitating back injury, Doug embarked on a new career as a computer network engineer. He graduated from the Electronic Technology Institute and obtained certifications from many notable organizations including the Electronics Technology Assoc., Cisco and HP. As a network engineer, Doug spent many years working in the San Diego area. Combining his love for construction and computers, Doug returned to Las Vegas and worked for several building/construction companies, as well as Las Vegas Dissemination Company, United Tote, and Churchill Downs. Following retirement, Doug continued to pursue his interests in computer programming, animation, and carpentry. Doug was well-known by his neighbors as “the friendly neighbor” and the “Forrest Gump of the neighborhood.” Even the mailman recalled stories about Doug’s kindness. Doug even named the neighborhood cats and fed them every day. Doug is now reunited in Heaven with his big sister Marianne (Henze) Vaughn (d: 1985), father Charles Fredrick Henze (d: 1984), beloved mother Joyce (Young) Henze (d: 2010), and his “second mother” Aunt Cleo (Young) Cope (d: 2003.) He is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him and miss his gentle spirit and warm smile. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Doug’s life on Thur., April 4, 2024, with visitation at 12pm followed by a memorial service at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S.
