David Keith Mangold

of Paul and Imogene Mangold. He had 2 brothers; The oldest of which being Paul who has

since passed on and his youngest brother being Danny. David grew up in Bakersfield,

California where he attended Fairfax Elementary from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. He

then attended Foothill High School for four years. While attending his senior year in High

School, he enlisted in the Navy Reserve, knowing that he would be drafted anyways. During

his time in the Navy, he served on the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA 63) from 1971-1973 in

Vietnam. He received the following awards of the “National Defense Service Medal,”

“Vietnam Service Medal,” and the “Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal” for his services.

While on the Kitty Hawk, he went to CS “A” School (Chef/Cook School) to become a cook

serving the thousands of men on the ship. Soon after being discharged from the Navy, David

was hired as a correctional officer for the State of California Department of Corrections from

the end of 1973-1978. During this time, David attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo

where he obtained a degree in criminal law. Around 1980, David and his wife, Sandra and

their son, Dustin moved to Henderson, Nevada. During this time, David and Sandra, a

stay-at-home mom, bought their first house where they enjoyed many years of having every

kid on the block hang out at their house to have good food and fun. When they moved to

Henderson, David also used his experience as a correctional officer to become a probation

officer working with troubled youth. He had a way of helping troubled youth and gave them

guidance to straighten out their lives. On several occasions, His wife, Sandra witnessed

youth that were previously on probation, thanking him for helping them get their lives back

on track. He found this work to be rewarding. He retired in 2008 from being a Clark County

Probation Officer to take up an even harder job; Being a Grandpa. He was very blessed to

have been able to spend time with his three grandchildren, Leila, Jacob, and Gracie. David

enjoyed his retirement and stayed busy keeping his hot rods and motorcycles clean, riding

with his motorcycle buddies and going on Harley runs, Barbecuing and cooking, shooting

guns, hanging out with his grandchildren, and taking care of the front yard (A.K.A. drinking

beer). He always kept his hot cars and bikes meticulously cleaned, and was well known for

his famous barbecues and his famous bread as well as telling stories and making jokes with

family members and friends. Every chance he had, he loved to take vacations and go to the

beach with his family. No one cared for his family like David did. David leaves behind

Sandra, his wife of 45 years, his son Dustin, 3 grandchildren, Leila, Jacob, and Gracie who

he dearly cherished. David was truly grateful for all of the loving friends and family he had

throughout his life. We were all so lucky to be able to know and have such a caring, funny,

and wonderful guy in our lives. David, you will be missed and forever loved.
